:: NASA Deep Space Communication Complex, Canberra, Australia ::

After visiting the peculiar, but interesting Canberra city and the War Memorial, I found that there's a NASA space communication complex in the mountains near Canberra. Twenty-five fun twisting kilometers later, I walked into the visitors center of the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex.

It's a small museum attached to a working real-life NASA center with tens of people working for it. From those, several are working in the museum area, are happy to shed more light onto the exhibits and give a background on the complex itself.

Among the exhibits can be found large models of several rockets, capsules, shuttle and a mars rover. You will also find a movie area and plenty of information on the complex itself along with interesting first computers that weren't capable of doing much, but weighed a lot.

(There are two roads from Canberra to the NASA complex, which form a circle. Both are enjoyable drives, but be careful at dusk, dawn and at night - there are kangaroos around unexpected corners that want to jump in front of your car or will not want to leave the road.)

You will also find the Mount Stromlo observatory not far from here. Check for information about the visitors center in advance - it was closed when I visited in Sept 2009.
